Its been one of those days where I just want to crawl into a whole and only speak to those who will answer me with a 'yes ma'am'. Many conflicts of personality, many 'suggestions' and many co-workers whose mouths need to meet my fist. How dare people feel they have the right to ridicule me, a question or a suggestion in an email. How dare people conveniently leave data out of the equation and then make it an example that I was missing a valid point. These people? They know who they are. If it wouldnt cost me my career, my fist would totally make contact.
Today, on the way home from work, I decided it was high time for a manicure. My nails have been growing like wildfire since being pregnant. And I've fallen in love with this new color from OPI. I saw it in a magazine and have been thinking it about it since.

The nail salon did not have this color, so I went with a safe neutral color for now. However, I will get my hands on this polish!
This past Friday I was lucky enough to get both my IRS and state tax refunds, so Friday night I spent my evening reworking the budget. Starting in May, my budget has two new entries ... diapers and baby food. (well, technically three....dum dum dum dumm... day.care.) In an attempt to pry myself away from the tv and the computer, I figured today was the best day to explore Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Jewel. What will it cost to feed the baby organic food?
Formula, really no difference in costs ... same price for any brand, organic or not. For rice, vegetables and fruits ... the choices are much more than what they used to be. Seems the prices are pretty much the same, some more expensive than others. Especially these at Whole Foods.
The food is neatly packaged in a reseable pouch. They were priced at 3 for $4.00. If nothing else, the packaging had me easily drawn to their location on the shelf. But as I was holding a package of this in my hand, reading the ingredients, I wondered, really how different is this baby food from regular ol'Gerber?
Recipes have changed since I was a baby and there are a TON more preservatives put into foods now than in the 70s. So is the non-organic food really good for the baby? Are these preservatives causing the childhood obseity epidemic? or dangerous, life threatening diseases in children? Probably not. But it still has me thinking about all the 'fake' foods there are out there. (prime example, Equal, Splenda and Sweet'n Low ... all fake sugars made of chemicals devised in a lab...not grown on a sugar cane in the beautiful sun. Our bodies dont know how to process these chemicals, so they dont. With real sugar, the body can easily digest).
Anyway, as of today, no decision has been made on the organic or non-organic. I'll have to wait and see what happens with the bean ... what he prefers. Then I'll adjust the ol'budget.

Its Valentine's Day weekend. There are plans for couples everywhere to do things to celebrate their love. Some stay home and just chill together. Some go out to dinner.
I spoke to a friend today about their plans, and they are a couple that will stay home and spend time together. Her exact words were, 'Why do I want to go out with a group of friends to celebrate Valentine's day with my husband?'. She makes a very good point. Why the expensive dinner, the cards, the gifts, on one day of the year to celebrate love?
Not being in love at the current time, Valentine's Day is just another day of the year. I have no desire to do anything other than a thing or two from my 'favorite things' list. I might take myself to Starbucks, get a nice gourmet coffee and read for an hour or two.
To all my friends who are going out for dinner, I hope its an enjoyable one.
Read this NPR article, and create your own life story. It took me almost all day to come up with mine.
*february 2010, my six word life story.
I guess spending time painting the trim and doors in the nursery, working late and visiting a friend in the hospital, kept me away from posting. Though these items were ordinary 'life' things, they are still a part of my life.
Though I did do one thing. I voted in the Illinois state election primary. Big year for Illinois, since after our previous governor ruined Illinois. He who is now appearing on The Celebrity Apprentice. Moron. My conversation at the polling place went something like this:
Election Judge: Republican or Democrat?
Me: Neither, I just want to vote for the library referendum.
Election Judge: Ok, great, here you are (hands me the ballot)
(Scanning the ballot I see only one question, to approve or not approve the new revised library referendum.)
Me: Is this it? Just this one question?
Election Judge: Yes
Me: Ok! This is going to be easy! Quick!
Literally I filled in the Yes circle, and went to the ballot machine. My vote was added to the already 159 votes. I walked away in under 3 minutes!
And on Wednesday I found out the referendum passed. This will give my local library the chance to remain open, in fact restore to normal operating hours (they were reduced by half early in 2009), and they'll even get the renovations needed for their facility. YAY! The one time where my vote really counted!
